A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE HATTIESBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT ON BEING AWARDED ACCREDITED/REACCREDITED STATUS BY THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.

WHEREAS, the Hattiesburg Police Department attained the award of Accredited/Reaccredited status by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies at the Pasadena Conference on March 20, 2004; and

WHEREAS, upon receiving this award, the Hattiesburg Police Department join an elite group of agencies in the United States, Canada and Barbados that have received this prestigious, international recognition; and

WHEREAS, the Hattiesburg Police Department was chosen to receive this award for having taken extraordinary measures to demonstrate their professionalism and pride in delivering quality enforcement service to its community; and

WHEREAS, The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, comprised of chiefs, sheriffs, elected officials and community leaders, is an independent, nonprofit organization, founded by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National Sheriff's Association and the Police Executive Research Forum; and

WHEREAS, the Hattiesburg Police Department, both prior and subsequent to its selection of this honor, has strived to uphold the excellence exhibited by the commission, which maintains a body of professional law enforcement standards and administers a voluntary process for participation; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the accomplishments of outstanding municipal organizations, such as the Hattiesburg Police Department, which constantly strives to fulfill its duty to protect the safety and serve the needs of the many citizens and visitors of Hattiesburg:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hattiesburg Police Department on being awarded the Accredited/Reaccredited status by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and extend our heartiest wishes for much continued success in all its future professional endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Hattiesburg Police Department, the Mayor of the City of Hattiesburg, the Hattiesburg City Council and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
