House Resolution 87

A RESOLUTION DECLARING JUNE 26, 2004, AS "PASCAGOULA HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1954 DAY."

WHEREAS, Pascagoula High School, listed on the National Historical Society Register, was one of the first public education facilities in the United States to be constructed by the use of federal funds acquired under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's administration in the 1930s, graduating its first class in 1939; and

WHEREAS, the Pascagoula High School Class of 1954 will be celebrating the occasion of its 50th year class reunion at the Pascagoula Country Club on June 25 and June 26, 2004; and

WHEREAS, the class of 113 students graduated on May 27, 1954, at the Pascagoula War Memorial Stadium under the administration of Mr. Aubrey Johnson and the superintendence of Mr. V.C. Gill; and

WHEREAS, with class colors of red and white, the American Beauty Rose as its flower and the motto, "The past forever gone, the future still our own," the Class of 1954 was responsible for accomplishing the publication of the Pascagoula High School's first ever hard-bound annual; and

WHEREAS, the graduates prospered into productive contributors to society as doctors, lawyers, engineers, nurses, teachers, government servants, secretaries, administrative assistants, businessmen and women, and distinguished military personnel, serving the nation; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the graduates of the Pascagoula High School Class of 1954 for their active involvement in civic, church and social affairs for the betterment and well-being of the citizens of Jackson County, Mississippi, and other parts of the United States:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby declare June 26, 2004, as "Pascagoula High School Class of 1954 Day" and extend our heartiest wishes to its members for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Pascagoula High School Class of 1954 and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
