House Resolution 81

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVILS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2003-2004 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Ashland High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team finished the 2003-2004 season with a notable record of 26 wins and 11 losses; and

WHEREAS, throughout their season the Blue Devils participated in several tournaments and placed second in the Ingomar and District Tournament and placed third in the North State and State Tournaments; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils were superbly coached and inspired by Coach Jessie Terry, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, along with Coach Terry's admirable coaching, the Blue Devils were also aided by assistant coaches, Dwight Allen and Cortez Terry, managers, Gerald Washington and Larry Everett, statistician, Rosie Reaves, and bookkeeper, Martha Richard; and

WHEREAS, the following young men have demonstrated outstanding play this season and are members of the Blue Devils: Corderro Ayers, Cordelro Godwin, Michael Hampton, Terry Hampton, Terell Henderson, Mario Jones, Chris Judge, Fredrick Moore, Jonathan Turner Mitchell, John Reliford, Jamaral Sanders, DeAnthony Tipler, Wesley Terry, Brandon Williams and Theartist Woodard; and

WHEREAS, several of the Blue Devils have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and excellent play this season, including the naming of DeAnthony Tipler, Jamaral Sanders, Brandon Williams and Michael Hampton as All-District Team Members, Brandon Williams and DeAnthony Tipler as All-State Team Members, and Jamaral Sanders, DeAnthony Tipler, Michael Hampton and Brandon Williams as All-North Half Team Members; and

WHEREAS, the Ashland High School Blue Devils have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring great honor to Ashland High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when displayed by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Ashland High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team and Coach Jessie Terry for their outstanding 2003-2004 season, and for their tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ashland High School, Coach Jessie Terry and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
