House Resolution 48

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BILOXI HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2003-2004 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Biloxi High School Indians Basketball Team finished the 2003-2004 season with a remarkable record of 24 wins and 7 losses; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the regular season and playoffs, the Indians fought and defeated many well-contended teams, and captured the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A State Championship, defeating the Hattiesburg High School Tigers 70-60; and

     WHEREAS, the 2003-2004 team for the Biloxi High School Indians entered the playoffs unranked in The Clarion-Ledger MHSAA poll and won the Class 5A Region 8 District VIII Champions, its fourth 5A state title and the second title for Coach John Pugh in the past four years; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated and superior play and their hard work this season, including the naming of Decarlos Riley, Devin Butler and J'Varis Nunn as All-Conference Players and the selection of Germaine Parker as Championship Player of the Game; and

     WHEREAS, the Biloxi High School Indians have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach John Pugh and Assistant Coaches Monty Noblitt, Joe Nelson and Seber Windham, who have broadened the Indians' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Indians have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, the Indians have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Biloxi High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Biloxi High School Indians Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach John Pugh and Assistant Coaches Monty Noblitt, Joe Nelson and Seber Windham for their phenomenal 2003-2004 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Biloxi High School, Head Coach John Pugh, Assistant Coaches Monty Noblitt, Joe Nelson, Seber Windham and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
