A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PAULA HAMILTON UPON RECEIVING A PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD, AND ON HER OUTSTANDING RECORD OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE, PEER LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT. 

     WHEREAS, Paula Hamilton of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, an eighth-grader at Oak Grove Middle School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2004 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

     WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and 

     WHEREAS, Miss Hamilton earned this award by dedicating herself in time and effort to assist disabled children at the local chapter of the Association for Retarded Citizens; and

     WHEREAS, the success of the State of Mississippi, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Miss Hamilton, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate Paula upon receiving a Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and on her outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership and community spirit, and we extend to her our best wishes for her continued success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Paula Hamilton and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
