House Resolution 6

A RESOLUTION DECLARING JULY 2, 2004, AS "MISSISSIPPI VOTER REGISTRATION DAY."

     WHEREAS, to improve the state's election process, enfranchise voters, and increase civic participation by Mississippi citizens, July 2, 2004, shall be declared "Mississippi Voter Registration Day"; and

     WHEREAS, many citizens within our state and throughout the country are unable to vote on election day because of inefficiencies and mistakes in the voter registration system; and

     WHEREAS, inaccurate voting rolls mainly affect precincts with predominantly minority populations; and

     WHEREAS, increased voter participation in elections would strengthen our democratic institutions, thereby strengthening the great State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, on July 2, 2004, citizens of the state will be encouraged to register to vote, thereby becoming active participants of this country's democratic process; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State of Mississippi to encourage voting amongst its citizens:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we declare July 2, 2004, as "Mississippi Voter Registration Day."

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
