House Concurrent Resolution 127

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE 2004 REGULAR SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE, AND SUSPENDING THE DEADLINES FOR THE PURPOSE OF PERMITTING THE FURTHER CONSIDERATION AND PASSAGE OF CERTAIN APPROPRIATION BILLS AND REVENUE BILLS THAT DIED AT THE DEADLINE FOR FINAL ADOPTION OF CONFERENCE REPORTS ON APPROPRIATION AND REVENUE BILL ON MONDAY, MAY 3, 2004.

     WHEREAS, Section 36, Mississippi Constitution of 1890, provides that the House of Representatives, by resolution with the Senate concurring therein, and by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those present and voting in each house, may extend a regular session of the Legislature for a period of thirty (30) days; and

     WHEREAS, certain appropriation bills for general fund agencies and certain revenue bills died at the deadline for final adoption of conference reports on appropriation and revenue bills on Monday, May 3, 2004, and the Legislature needs the opportunity to further consider those appropriation and revenue bills before the end of the 2004 Regular Session:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That the 2004 Regular Session of the Legislature is extended for a period of thirty (30) days from the final day of the one hundred twenty-five (125) calendar days of the 2004 Regular Session of the Legislature, under the provisions of Section 36, Mississippi Constitution of 1890.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Joint Rules of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Mississippi State Legislature, including all the deadlines and other provisions imposed by Joint Rule No. 40, are suspended for the purpose of permitting the further consideration and passage of:

     (1)  All appropriation bills for general fund agencies that died at the deadline for final adoption of appropriation and revenue bills on Monday, May 3, 2004; and

     (2)  The following revenue bills that died at the deadline for final adoption of appropriation and revenue bills on Monday, May 3, 2004:  House Bill No. 1762, 1791, 1792 and 1798, and Senate Bill No. 2809, 3088 and 3178.
