A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BRUINS SOCCER TEAM UPON WINNING THE 2001-2002, 2002-2003 AND 2003-2004 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the St. Joseph High School Boys Bruins Soccer Team, a source of pride and inspiration for all the citizens of Madison, Mississippi, and Madison County, attained its third consecutive 1A/2A/3A State Boys Soccer Championship; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the regular seasons and playoffs, the Bruins fought and defeated many well-contended teams, and captured the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A/2A/3A State Championship for the 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons; and

     WHEREAS, during these past three seasons, the Bruins have accomplished what no other boys soccer team in the 1A/2A/3A Division in the State of Mississippi or in the history of the MHSAA by winning three consecutive titles; and

     WHEREAS, the Bruins, during the 2003-2004 season, outscored their opponents by a remarkable 115 to 8 goals, compiled an overall record of 20-2 and were the highest ranked 2A school in the State of Mississippi, finishing the season second in the state; and

     WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated and superior play and their hard work this season, including the naming of Henry Lawrence as both the Clarion Ledger Player of the Year and the State of Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the St. Joseph High School Bruins have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Dwyane Demmin, who has broadened the Bruins' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Bruins have been supported in their athletic endeavors and can attribute much of their success to the many parents, fans and supporters whose moral and spiritual encouragement have remained fervent throughout the season; and

     WHEREAS, the Bruins have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to St. Joseph High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. Joseph High School Boys Bruins Soccer Team and their coach, Head Coach Dwyane Demmin, for their phenomenal 2001-2002, 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons, for winning three consecutive MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A State Championships and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to St. Joseph High School, Head Coach Dwyane Demmin and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
