House Concurrent Resolution 33

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS ALLISON KELLOGG UPON BEING NAMED MISS MISSISSIPPI 2003.

     WHEREAS, Miss Allison Kellogg of Madison, Mississippi, was crowned Miss Mississippi 2003 on June 28, 2003; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Kellogg attended high school at Madison Central High School, and is a graduate, summa cum laude, of the University of Alabama, where she received a degree in dance and public relations; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Kellogg's scholastic honors consist of being named to the USA Today All-American Team 2003, recipient of University of Alabama Senior Award, Mortar Board Scholar, Omicron Delta Kappa, Anderson Society, Blue Key, Lambda Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta and Cardinal Key; and

     WHEREAS, having strong community involvements, Miss Kellogg additionally contributed her time, effort and resources to teaching free ballet lessons for eight years, writing grants to fund lessons for underprivileged children, serving as a counselor for "Be Your Best You" Camp and a member of United Way Youth in Action, creating the copyrighted "Star Kids" program, developing the Madison Mayor's Youth Council, spearheading the "Reading For Refugees" project for Madison Middle School and Pecan Park Elementary School and serving on the "I Can Achieve" Committee for J.C. Penney After School programs and Boys and Girls Club of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a member of Madison United Methodist Church, Miss Kellogg's church affiliations also include Calvary Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Campus Crusade for Christ and acting as a delegate to the Campus Crusade Christmas Conference in Atlanta, Georgia; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Kellogg's claim to fame has not just begun, for she has received countless other honors and awards, including Miss America Quality of Life finalist, Miss America State Community Service Award, National Daily Points of Light Award from former President George Bush, top finalist in America's Junior Miss Pageant, Governor appointed board member to Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service and Capital City Classic "Women of the Classic Award" 2003; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Kellogg, as Miss Mississippi 2003, will serve as the state's ambassador for the next year traveling throughout the state and country promoting her platform on "After School Programs: Good For Children and Communities"; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, as especially evidenced by this beautiful and talented young lady, Miss Allison Kellogg:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Allison Kellogg upon being named Miss Mississippi 2003 and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Allison Kellogg and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
