House Bill 1834

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, TO ISSUE AND SELL GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS OF THE CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS, PURCHASING BUILDINGS, PURCHASING LAND FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDINGS AND REPAIR, IMPROVE AND EQUIP SUCH BUILDINGS, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $5,000,000.00; TO PROVIDE THAT SUCH BONDS SHALL MATURE ABSOLUTELY AT SUCH TIME OR TIMES NOT TO EXCEED 30 YEARS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The governing authorities of the City of Starkville, Mississippi, are authorized to issue and sell general obligation bonds of the city for the purpose of constructing municipal buildings, purchasing buildings, purchasing land for the construction of buildings and repair, improve and equip such buildings, in an amount not to exceed Five Million Dollars ($5,000,000.00).  Such bonds shall mature absolutely at such time or times not to exceed thirty (30) years.

     SECTION 2.  Except as otherwise provided in this act, all bonds issued as provided in this act shall be issued and the proceeds managed in accordance with the terms and provisions as contained in Section 21-33-301, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 3.  This act, without reference to any other statute not referred to in this act, shall be deemed to be full and complete authority for the borrowing of money and the issuing of bonds as authorized by the governing authorities and shall be construed as an additional and alternate method therefor.

     SECTION 4.  Any bonds issued under the provisions of this act shall be validated in the manner provided by law.

     SECTION 5.  The governing authorities are authorized and empowered to adopt any and all lawful resolutions, orders or ordinances and do and perform any and all acts and things necessary and requisite to carry out the purposes of this act.

     SECTION 6.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
