House Bill 1770

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING CERTAIN MATCHING FUNDS FOR FEDERAL GRANTS TO COUNTIES FOR THE PURCHASE OF FIRE TRUCKS UNDER THE RURAL FIRE TRUCK ACQUISITION PROGRAM IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The following sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the special fund in the State Treasury to the credit of the Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Fund to the Mississippi Department of Insurance for the Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Assistance Program for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2004, and ending July 30, 2004............ ....................................................$1,640,000.00.

     Of the funds appropriated in this section, One Million Six Hundred Forty Thousand Dollars ($1,640,000.00) shall be expended as follows:

     Each county in the state shall be allotted Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) to be expended as a fifteen percent (15%) or less match for any federal grant to the county.  The monies from the federal grant and the matching funds provided for herein shall be used to purchase fire trucks in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Insurance.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
