House Bill 1236

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE POSSESSION OR USE OF ARTIFICIAL NOISEMAKERS, SYMBOLS OR OBJECTS AT COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL GAMES SHALL NOT BE UNLAWFUL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1. It shall not be unlawful for an individual to possess, use or display any artificial noisemaker, symbol or object traditionally associated with college or university football games, such as cowbells, flags, band instruments, shakers or horns, during college or university football games played out-of-doors.  However, football game referees, umpires or officials may penalize football teams for disruptive or improper use of such noisemakers, symbols or objects.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
