House Bill 1203

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT IF A STATE INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING PROVIDES REMEDIAL TRAINING, REMEDIAL TUTORING SERVICES OR ADDITIONAL REMEDIATION TO A STUDENT WHO GRADUATED FROM A PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN MISSISSIPPI, THEN THAT INSTITUTION MAY CHARGE THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT WHERE THAT HIGH SCHOOL IS LOCATED FOR ALL OR PART OF THE COST OF PROVIDING THAT TRAINING OR SERVICES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  If a state institution of higher learning provides remedial training, remedial tutoring services or additional remediation to a student who graduated from a public high school in Mississippi, then that institution may charge the local school district where that high school is located for all or part of the cost of providing that training or services.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
