AN ACT TO ALLOW HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICERS AND OTHER CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO RETAIN AN ASSIGNED DOG WHEN THE DOG IS RETIRED FROM SERVICE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  A member of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol or any other certified law enforcement officer shall be allowed to retain as his personal property any dog assigned to such member when the dog is retired from service.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
