AN ACT TO REQUIRE CERTAIN CHURCHES OR RELIGIOUS SOCIETIES TO PROVIDE HOUSING, COUNSELING, LITERACY AND COMPUTER SKILLS TO RELEASED OFFENDERS WHO ARE UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  For the purpose of preventing released offenders from returning to prison, any church or religious society that receives any state grant money must provide housing, counseling, literacy and computer skills to at least one (1) released offender who is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
