AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWN OF CALEDONIA TO PURCHASE RADAR SPEED DETECTION EQUIPMENT FOR USE BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS OF THE MUNICIPALITY IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF SPEED LIMITS ON THE ROADS AND STREETS WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS AND UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE MUNICIPALITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The governing authorities of the Town of Caledonia, in their discretion, may expend out of any available funds of the municipality, an amount that they determine is sufficient for the purchase of radar speed detection equipment for use by law enforcement officers of the municipality.  If the governing authorities authorize the expenditure of funds for this purpose, then any duly sworn law enforcement of the municipality may operate and use the equipment to enforce motor vehicle speed limits on any public road or street within the corporate limits and under the jurisdiction of the municipality.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
