AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 3-3-16, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE DESIGN OF THE OFFICIAL STATE FLAG OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 3-3-16, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     3-3-16.  (1)  The official flag of the State of Mississippi shall have the following design:  with width two-thirds (2/3) of its length; with a field of old glory blue; with a white circle bordered with gold and centered in the middle of the field, with a diameter of one-half (1/2) the width of the field; with the circle to contain a seal depicting the New State Capitol and a magnolia blossom with leaves over a watermark (gray) outline of the State of Mississippi, with the words "THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI" on the upper border of the circle and the words "THE MAGNOLIA STATE" on the lower border of the circle; with the staff surmounted with a spearhead and a battle axe below, and the flag to be fringed with gold and the staff gilded with gold.

     (2)  The Governor of the state is authorized and empowered to procure a Mississippi State Flag of proper dimensions which shall be preserved in the Office of the Adjutant General of the state and the Office of the Secretary of State.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
