AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 19-3-7, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT AN ELECTION SHALL BE HELD BY THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH YEAR SUCCEEDING THE FIRST YEAR FOLLOWING THE ELECTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING THE OFFICES OF PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 19-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     19-3-7.  The members of the board of supervisors, having given bond and taken the oath of office, shall meet at the courthouse of their county, on the first Monday in January next succeeding the election, and shall organize by electing one (1) of their number to be president, and by electing one (1) of their number to be vice president, and, being so organized, and attended by the sheriff and clerk, the board may proceed to discharge its duties.  An election shall be held at the beginning meeting of each succeeding year to determine the offices of president and vice president.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2004.
