AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

                             Senate Bill NO. 2597

                             By Representative(s) Compretta


     Amend by striking all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

 


     SECTION 1.  (1)  It shall be unlawful for a person intentionally and without legal justification to focus, point or aim a laser beam directly or indirectly at a law enforcement officer, fire fighter or any emergency personnel in such a manner as to harass, annoy or injure such law enforcement officer, fire fighter or emergency personnel.

     (2)  If a laser beam is intentionally pointed at a law enforcement officer, fire fighter or any emergency personnel who is identifiable and in uniform and in performance of the officer's, fire fighter's or emergency personnel's duties, then the person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.


     Further, amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

 


     AN ACT TO PROHIBIT FOCUSING OF A LASER BEAM WHEN DIRECTED AT A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, FIRE FIGHTER OR ANY EMERGENCY PERSONNEL; TO ENACT PENALTIES THEREFOR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
