Senate Resolution 117

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BEVERLY JOHNSTON, MADISON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT "2003 ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR."

WHEREAS, Beverly Johnston, Principal at Madison Station Elementary School, has been honored as the Madison County School District "2003 Administrator of the Year" for her dedicated work, and she is now contending for the state honor; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Johnston has served as the Madison Station Principal for three years.  She worked as the school's Assistant Principal for the three years before; and

WHEREAS, Johnston credits Charlotte Seals, who was Madison Station Principal before her, for her philosophy of leading the school: that everyone at the school is family and has a commitment to the community.  Madison Station teachers and administrators instill the idea of giving to others.  The school has raised thousands of dollars for charities, such as the American Heart Association and the Make-A-Wish Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Johnston has been making a difference in children's lives since she got into education 13 years ago, but her dream of being a teacher began much earlier; and

WHEREAS, she started as a Teacher in Desoto County, where school officials encouraged her to consider a job in Administration.  As Johnston worked on her Master's Degree, she started making changes in the classroom that other teachers followed.  After moving to Madison, she started to work on a second Master's Degree, this one in School Administration.  She worked as a Teacher at Madison Avenue Elementary and then Luther Branson Elementary.  At age 30, she realized the opportunity to join Madison Station as Assistant Principal; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Johnston supports the arts through the curriculum and does whatever it takes to support the teachers and the students, and it is with great pride that we recognize this dedicated school administrator who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Beverly Johnston, Principal at Madison Station Elementary School and Madison County School District "2003 Administrator of the Year" and extend to her and her family the best wishes of the Senate in state administrator competition and in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Beverly Johnston, be forwarded to the Madison County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
