Senate Resolution 114

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING DISTRICT 45 STATE SENATOR RON FARRIS FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEGISLATIVE RECORD AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF HIS DISTRICT AND STATE.

     WHEREAS, Ron Farris, a Republican from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is completing 8 years of outstanding, dedicated service as a member of the Mississippi Senate from District 45 (Forrest and Lamar Counties) and has indicated that he will not run for reelection at the expiration of his present term in order to spend time with his family and devote more time to the practice of law; and

     WHEREAS, in Ron Farris, the residents of District 45 are losing an honest, dependable State Senator, and the residents of Mississippi have lost 8 years of Senate experience and unquestioned integrity; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Farris is Vice Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and has served with distinction on the Appropriations, Education, Elections Judiciary Juvenile Justice, Public Health and Welfare, Universities and Colleges and Joint Legislative Budget Committees, this committee experience representing substantial legislative influence over the establishment of education and health programs and the funding of these programs; and

     WHEREAS, Ron has taken a particular interest in public education programs and the need for early education programs, having served on the Early Childhood Education Task Force and Advisory Council, and was instrumental in crafting legislation relating to public education, Critical Needs Teacher Scholarship Programs, teacher salaries, the adequate education formula, child care facilities and programs, budget issues and tort reform; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Farris is a successful practicing attorney who was born May 26, 1961, in Forrest County, attended the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Mississippi School of Law; he was a backbone of church, civic and economic development efforts across his district; he is an active member of the Baptist Church, is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, Gideons International, the American Legislative Exchange Council, the American Red Cross, Kiwanis, the Pine Belt Boys and Girls Club, the Mississippi Republican Party State Executive Committee, Outstanding Young Men of America; and he is dedicated to his wife, the former Leisa Sims, and children, Noah and Joshua; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Farris has provided firm, effective and constructive representation coupled with a keen understanding of the issues facing Mississippi and a passion about the education of children, and the members of the Senate wish to express sincere appreciation to Ron for his record of dedicated public service:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the legacy of public service of District 45 State Senator Ron Farris of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and for all that he has meant to the Senate and his unmatched contributions to the people of the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Farris and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
