A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KENT HULL, ALL-PRO FOOTBALL STAR FROM MISSISSIPPI STATE WHO PLAYED IN FOUR CONSECUTIVE SUPER BOWLS AS A CENTER WITH THE BUFFALO BILLS, UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE MISSISSIPPI SPORTS HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2003.
WHEREAS, the Jackson Touchdown Club and Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled the Class of 2003 of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, which features Kent Hull, All-Pro Football star from Mississippi State, who played in four consecutive Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills and is considered one of the finest Centers in pro football; and
WHEREAS, a native of Pontotoc, Mississippi, who was raised in Greenwood, Mississippi, Kent was an All-Big Eight football and basketball player at Greenwood High, was an All-SEC four-year starter at Center for Mississippi State from 1979-1982, played for Emory Bellard in the school's first back-to-back bowl appearances in 1980 and 1981, and was a member of the winning Gray squad in the 1982 Blue-Gray game; and
WHEREAS, Kent was a 7th round draft choice of USFL New Jersey Generals and blocked for QB Doug Flutie and RB Hershel Walker during the USFL's existence, then became a Center for the Buffalo Bills from 1986-1996; and
WHEREAS, he played in three Pro Bowls and was named All-Pro by various media sources, he blocked for QB Jim Kelly and RB Thurman Thomas at Buffalo and played in 189 games, 5th on the Buffalo Bills all-time list, he served as Team Captain for seven straight seasons; and
WHEREAS, he played in the greatest comeback in NFL history in Buffalo Bills overtime 41-38 win over the Houston Oilers in 1992 Wild Card play-off game in which Buffalo fell behind 35-3; and
WHEREAS, Kent was inducted into the Mississippi State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding athlete who has brought honor to his university and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kent Hull, All-Pro Football star from Mississippi State University, who played in four consecutive Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills and is considered one of the finest Centers in pro football, upon his induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2003, and wish him and his family continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Kent Hull at induction ceremonies to be held on April 4, 2003, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
