Senate Resolution 83

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING SENATE HEAD PAGE AND MISS MISSISSIPPI PAGEANT CONTENDER MISTY NICOLE REA OF HOUSTON, MISSISSIPPI, ON HER PUBLIC SERVICE AND EXPRESSING THE BEST WISHES OF THE SENATE.

     WHEREAS, the beautiful and talented Misty Nicole Rea of Houston, Mississippi, has served as Head Page and Chief Photographer for the Mississippi Senate during the 2003 Regular Session; and

     WHEREAS, Misty is completing her second year as Senior Page for the Senate, having displayed exemplary and dedicated service to the membership of the Senate and the State of Mississippi during her tenure; and

     WHEREAS, a 1997 graduate of Hebron Christian School, the congenial Miss Rea has an impressive record of achievement in local and state beauty pageants:  Miss Houston/North Central Mississippi 2000, Miss University (Ole Miss) 2001, Miss Houston/North Central Mississippi 2002, Miss New South 2003, Top 10 Semifinalist in the Miss Mississippi Pageant 2001 and 2002, and displayed her extraordinary vocal talents as Preliminary Talent Winner in the Miss Mississippi Pageant in 2002; and

     WHEREAS, her 2002 Miss Mississippi platform was awareness and advocacy for individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities; and

     WHEREAS, Misty is a 2002 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Print Journalism, attaining a 3.73 GPA, and she has been accepted into the Fall 2003 Freshman Class at the University of Mississippi Medical School at UMC and will pursue a career in medicine; and

     WHEREAS, Carrying forth her Miss Mississippi Platform 2003, Misty has performed valuable charitable service as a volunteer at West Mississippi Regional Center, Mississippi Department of Mental Health, working with the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled; she also volunteers as a rape crisis counselor and exhibits her love and concern for her fellow Mississippians in her many contributions to volunteer efforts in a variety of community service endeavors; and

     WHEREAS, Sweet Potato Queen wannabees can be found worldwide, but Misty is a genuine "Sweet Potato Queen," first receiving this honor as a young child at the age of 5 and later crowned the official "Sweet Potato Queen" in Vardaman, Mississippi, the Sweet Potato Capital of the World, while a high school student at Hebron Christian School; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this gregarious individual who has meant so much and brought honor to the Mississippi Senate:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Senate Head Page and Miss Mississippi Pageant contender Misty Nicole Rea of Houston, Mississippi, for her beautiful and dedicated service to the Mississippi Senate and the people of the State of Mississippi, and extend to her the best wishes of the Senate for success in the Miss Mississippi Pageant and in her academic career in medical school.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Miss Misty Nicole Rea and be made available to the Board of Directors of the Miss Mississippi Pageant and the Capitol Press Corps.
