Senate Resolution 75

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OKOLONA HIGH SCHOOL "CHIEFTAINS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH BOBBY V. FORD FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2002-2003 SEASON AND THEIR 4TH STRAIGHT DIVISION 2-2A CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Okolona High School "Chieftains" Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Bobby V. Ford have completed the 2002-2003 season with an outstanding 28-4 record and their 4th straight Division 2-2A Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Chieftains have a tradition of success in tournament play, winning the Hatley Invitational Tournament, the Tupelo and Booneville Kiwanis Tournaments, the Calhoun City Curtis Loggins Classic and winning the 2003 North-State Regional Tournament Championship on their way to the MHSAA State Tournament, which the Chieftains won in 2002; and

     WHEREAS, several team members have achieved the following individual honors:  Reggie Gunn, All-District, District Player of the Year 2002 and 2003, All-North-State 2001, 2002 and 2003, All-State in 2002 and 2003; Kareem Moore, All-District 2002 and 2003, All-North-State 2002 and 2003, All-State 2001, 2002 and 2003; Tyronza Parker, All-District 2002 and 2003, All-North-State 2003 and All-State 2002; and

     WHEREAS, this team has been ably led by Head Coach Bobby V. Ford whose coaching philosophy is "it's all about helping the kids mature and grow as young people, and helping them understand the value of hardwork and teamwork"; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school and to their community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Okolona High School "Chieftains" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Bobby Ford for their outstanding 2002-2003 season and their 4th straight Division 2-2A Championship and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to the Chieftains Basketball Team and Coach Ford and the Principal of Okolona High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
