A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2002-2003 MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL "LADY MUSTANGS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH ANNA JACKSON FOR WINNING THE 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the Murrah High School "Lady Mustangs" Girls Basketball Team won the Class 5A State Championship, which was a fitting finale to an outstanding 2002-2003 season record of 27-5; and

     WHEREAS, on their way to the State Championship, the Lady Mustangs tuned up with excellent tournament play, winning the Division 3-5A Championship, placing 3rd in the North State Regional Tournament, Runner-up in the JPS/Pepsi Tournament and winning the Clinton Invitational Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the following team members received impressive individual honors:  Navonda Moore, All-JPS/Pepsi Tournament, All-Division 3-5A Tournament, MVP Division 3-5A, named to The Clarion-Ledger "Dandy Dozen", Metro-Player of the Year, State Player of the Year, Mississippi/Alabama All-Star, Mississippi/Alabama MVP and WBCA Honorable Mention; Diamond Rogers (Team Captain), All-JPS/Pepsi Tournament, All-Division 3-5A, All-Metro 2nd Team, All-State Honorable Mention, All-State Tournament; and Margaree King, All-State Tournament Team; and

     WHEREAS, the team was ably led by Coach Anna V. Jackson, who was named Mississippi Association of Coaches "Coach of the Year" in 2002, won her 500th game on November 9, 2002, and served as the Administrative Coach in the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Mustang team roster is as follows:  Tiffany Franklin, Patrice Cox, Tinekia Harris, Rosemary Enobakhare, Shaneka Jones, Courtney Reynolds, Jessica Mitchell, Navonda Moore, Natasha Tate, Chrystal Roberts, Margaree King, Jade Chatman, Natasha Taylor, Diamond Rogers and Danielle Baldwin; Managers, Jessica Ayers, Akesha Jenkins, Robynne Shields, Cherita Brent-Jackson and Quitina Reynolds; ball boy, Rashid Franklin; Coach Anna V. Jackson; and Assistant Coaches Marvin Jackson and Arthur Brown; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishments of this fine group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Murrah High School "Lady Mustangs" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Anna V. Jackson for winning the Class 5A State Championship and for their excellent 2002-2003 season, and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Lady Mustangs, Coach Anna Jackson, be forwarded to Principal Karen Wilson and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
