A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS JENNIFER ADCOCK FOR HER REIGN AS MISS MISSISSIPPI 2002.

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock, the daughter of Jesse and Janet Adcock, was selected as Miss Mississippi 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, but moved to Hattiesburg in 1994, where she graduated from Oak Grove High School with special honors; and

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock's platform issue, early childhood development, is the result of her commitment to educating parents about the needs of their children from birth to school, to inform them of resources available in the community and to advocate for supporting existing programs and early childhood education programs that are needed; and

     WHEREAS, her community service is dear to her heart and not created just for the pageant experience:  her mother is a Preschool Minister at First Baptist Church in Hattiesburg; Jennifer has attended seminars and worked with her mother in the area of early childhood development since about 12 years of age; and Jennifer does hands-on volunteer work with several local and school-sponsored parenting centers in Petal, Picayune and Hattiesburg; and

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock is a Senior at the University of Southern Mississippi and is majoring in Speech Communication where she is on the Dean's List, the President's List, and is in the Lambda Pi Eta Speech Communication Honor Society, the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the Speech Communication Association; and 

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock has competed well in previous pageants, being named Miss Southern 2001; Mississippi's Junior Miss 1998; Talent Preliminary Winner and Overall Non-Finalist Talent Winner at America's Junior Miss in Mobile, Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, Jennifer Adcock participated in the Miss America Pageant in September 2002, winning the Active International Business Award and finishing as a Swimsuit Preliminary Winner and a Top Ten Finalist; and

     WHEREAS, the Senate wishes to pay a special tribute to a remarkable young woman, Miss Jennifer Adcock, for her outstanding representation of the state during her reign as Miss Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Miss Mississippi 2002, Miss Jennifer Adcock, whose reign has brought honor to this state and for her commitment to the youth of this state and wish her continued success in her endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Miss Jennifer Adcock and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
