A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL "LADY WAVE" SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR IMPRESSIVE SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Girls Soccer Team, the "Lady Wave" captured their first Class 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the "Lady Wave" Soccer Team defeated the Clinton Lady Arrows with a thrilling 1-0 victory in the State Championship game; and

     WHEREAS, the "Lady Wave" Soccer Team shutout the Lady Arrows with a tenacious defense that is the hallmark of a championship team; and

     WHEREAS, on their march to the championship, the "Lady Wave" were victorious in the play-offs over Meridian, Madison-Central, and Brandon; and

     WHEREAS, the "Lady Wave" posted an impressive 18-2-1 record and had 15 shutouts and allowed only 6 goals to be scored by their opponents; and

     WHEREAS, the "Lady Wave" is superbly coached by Mark Enis, a Tupelo, Mississippi, native and former member of the Tupelo High School Boys Soccer Team; and

     WHEREAS, the outstanding coaching performance of Coach Enis was recognized by his peers when he was honored as Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches; and

     WHEREAS, the State Championship Team consists of the following members; Seniors:  Betsy Anderson, Lindsey Brinton, Kimberly Corbett, Anna Stennett; Juniors:  Faren Pollard, Elizabeth Todd, Christi Dorough, Cindy Delgadillo, Kathryn Corbett, Brittany Lamb, Haley Howell; Sophomores:  Amanda Wesson, Liza Llewelyn, Cecilia Thompson; Freshmen:  Laura Hamm, Lydia Rice, Hannah Weatherly, Molly Lincoln, Corynne Ware, Anna Merritt Roberts, Ivy Davis, Keeley Corbett; 8th grader:  Casey Wesson and Team Manager:  Anna Claire Bryson; and

     WHEREAS, five members of this team of champions received All-State honors from the Mississippi Association of Coaches:  Lydia Rice and Hannah Weatherly were named to the All-State first team, and Lindsey Brinton, Kimberly Corbett and Laura Hamm were named to the All-State second team; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi Senate to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of student athletes; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishment of this group of championship athletes who have brought honor to their school and their community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School "Lady Wave" Soccer Team for their first Class 5A State Championship and their impressive season.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Mark Enis and the Tupelo "Lady Wave" Soccer Team.
