A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING POPLARVILLE UPPER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR, RONNIE BURGE, FOR THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT PRESIDENTIAL PHYSICAL FITNESS AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Poplarville Upper Elementary School has for the third straight year won State Champions in Mississippi for Classification 3 (500-1,000 students) of the President's Challenge; and

     WHEREAS, this recognition is the Presidential Physical Fitness Award, awarded annually to schools showing excellence and meeting high standards in physical education; and

     WHEREAS, the total number of students in the school is 501 (Grades 3-5), and 111 students made "Presidential" this past year, the second highest in the state; and

     WHEREAS, 616 Poplarville Upper Elementary students have made the Presidential Challenge in the past eight years; and

     WHEREAS, Poplarville Elementary School's Physical Education Instructor is Ronnie Burge, who is to be congratulated on his students' achievement; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding accomplishments of these students who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the students of Poplarville Upper Elementary School, who won their third straight Presidential Physical Fitness Award, and their Physical Education Instructor, Ronnie Burge, and extend to them the best wishes of the Senate on continuing their achievements in physical education.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Ronnie Burge, the Principal of Poplarville Upper Elementary School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
