Senate Resolution 11

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. SARAH NEWMAN UPON HER PARTICIPATION IN THE 2002 USA INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sarah Newman was the only native Mississippian to compete in the 2002 USA International Ballet Competition, which took place at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson in June 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Newman, a resident of Brookhaven, Mississippi, competed with over 100 dancers from 24 different countries and was one of only 17 total dancers representing the United States; and

     WHEREAS, having trained under Jennifer Beasley for the past nine years, Ms. Newman participated in the Joffrey Ballet Summer Program and the prestigious American Ballet Theater Summer Workshop; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Newman was named Junior Miss, which is primarily a scholarship program that promotes excellence and encourages young ladies to be the best they can be, and proudly represented Brookhaven and Lincoln County in the statewide pageant in July; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Newman, the daughter of Henry and Vickie Newman, is an outstanding student at Brookhaven Academy; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the outstanding young people of our state such as Ms. Newman:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Sarah Newman upon her participation in the 2002 USA International Ballet Competition and express our warmest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Sarah Newman and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
