A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. BETTY SUE O'BRIAN FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian, a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian, an English instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 13 years and has taught for the past 22 years; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian received her Bachelor of Science Degree in English and Master of Science Degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian is a member of the College Staff Development Committee, Vice President's Advisory Board, President's Advisory Board, Wellness Committee, and a Vocational/Industrial Clubs of America Judge; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian has served on the organizing committees of the Ocean Springs Herb Festival and the St. John's Renaissance Festival, President of the East Mississippi Gulf Coast Wholistic Wellness Network, and Secretary of Ultreya, St. John's Episcopal Church; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian is a member of the Community College Humanities Association, TYCA-Two-Year College English Association, and Mississippi Humanities Council Speaker's Bureau; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution are furnished to Ms. Betty Sue O'Brian and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
