A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COLLINS HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH BRUCE MERCHANT FOR THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the undefeated 2002 edition of the Collins High School "Tigers" Football Team repeated as Class AAA State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers were ranked Number 1 every week of the 2002 Regular Season (wire-to-wire), accumulating an outstanding 15-0 record; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers won the Division 6 Championship and the South State Regional Championship on their way to the AAA State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the following team members were recognized for outstanding play:  Corey Clark, All-District, All-State; Brandon McDonald, All-District, All-State; Kethone McLourin, All-District, All-State; Tyrus Booker, All-District, All-State; VonCoric Owens, All-District, All-State; Darren Magee, All-District; Arkeith Cozort, All-District; and Thomas Wheeler, All-District; and

     WHEREAS, the team was ably coached by Coach Bruce Merchant and Assistant Coaches Kevin Jackson, Thomas Bender, Adam Thompson and Tim Story, who instilled football fundamentals and a winning team attitude; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Collins High School "Tigers" Football Team and Coach Bruce Merchant for their second consecutive Class AAA State Championship and outstanding 2002 season, and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Merchant and the Principal of Collins High School on behalf of the team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
