Senate Concurrent Resolution 508

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING WAYNE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL "COACH OF THE YEAR" MARCUS BOYLES.

     WHEREAS, when Coach Marcus Boyles joined the Wayne County High School coaching staff in 2000 as an assistant under Coach Bobby Hall, he knew the War Eagles had the potential to play for a Class 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, Boyles became Head Coach and built on the program's foundation, and through his leadership the War Eagles realized his ultimate dream on December 6, 2002, with a 21-14 victory over previously undefeated and then No. 1 South Panola for their first Class 5A State Title Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this outstanding victory capped a 14-1 season--a school record for wins--and Wayne County finished the season ranked No. 1 in The Clarion-Ledger Super 10 football poll, with Coach Boyles named "Coach of the Year" by TV Station WDAM; and

     WHEREAS, this State Championship is the culmination of a stellar career for Coach Boyles, who holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master's Degree from William Carey College, and whose honors and awards are a matter of record:  Most Valuable Back, Raleigh High School, 1984; Permanent Co-Captain, Raleigh High School, 1984; Gold Key Award, Jones County Junior College, 1986; Co-sponsor of FCA, Florence, Louisville and Taylorsville High Schools; voted 1990 Baseball Coach of the Year, Division 12 - 3A; voted WDAM Coach of the Year, 1995 and 2002; MS All-Star Assistant Coach, 1996; MS All-Star Head Coach, 2002; MS - AL All-Star Assistant Coach, 1998; Clinic Speaker for:  MS Multi Sports Clinic, Jackson, 1995, 1996; Louisville Football Clinic, 1995, 1996; MSU Football Clinic, 1995; Taylorsville High School Football:  District Champions:  1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997; South State Champions:  1993, 1994, 1995; 2A State Runner-up:  1993; 2A State Champions:  1994, 1995;

Pearl High School Football:  District Champions:  1998, 1999; South State Runner-up:  1998; Wayne County High School Football:  District Champions:  2002; South State Champions:  2002; 5A State Champions:  2002; over-all record:  110 wins, 15 losses; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishment of this outstanding football coach, who has brought honor to his school, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Wayne County High School Football Coach of the Year Marcus Boyles for his first State Championship, and wish him continued success in his future athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Boyles and his family, and be made available to the Principal of Wayne County High School and the Capitol Press Corps.
