AN ACT TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO KNOWINGLY INSTALL OR REINSTALL ANY OBJECT IN LIEU OF AN AIRBAG THAT WAS DESIGNED IN ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATION FOR THE MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE, AS A PART OF A VEHICLE INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SYSTEM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any person who knowingly installs or reinstalls any object in lieu of an airbag that was designed in accordance with federal safety regulations for the make, model and year of vehicle, as a part of a vehicle inflatable restraint system, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), or by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, or both.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2003.
