A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE PERCY MAPLES FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Percy Maples has served the citizens of House District 107, which includes George, Stone and Jackson Counties for more than 20 years; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples, a native of Tiger Branch, graduated from Broome High School, Perkinston Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in business administration; and

     WHEREAS, a loyal patriot of his country, Representative Maples joined the United States Army Reserve, where he served for six years and retired with the rank of E-5; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples worked for Commercial Credit for four years and was promoted to Assistant Loan Manager; and

     WHEREAS, after caring for his elderly parents and the passing of his father, Representative Maples invested in the real estate business and farming; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples' strong leadership abilities were recognized when he was appointed Vice Chairman of the County Affairs Committee in 1999; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples currently serves on the Agriculture, Appropriations, Public Buildings, Grounds and Lands and Transportation Committees; and

     WHEREAS, in the 1990 Legislative Session, Representative Maples introduced House Bill 661, which provided the tax exemption to all school bus tags and was instrumental in passing the 1987 Highway Bill; and

     WHEREAS, in addition, Representative Maples' list of accomplishments also include getting financing for a new Justice Court Building in George County, the Lucedale/George County Library expansion project and getting equipment for the Forestry Department and the fire departments; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples was chosen by the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Association as the 2003 Legislator of the Year for his contributions to conservation; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife, the former Mary Fisher; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Maples' congenial nature, constructive attitude and forthright manner have had a positive influence on all those who have had the pleasure of working with this highly respected member of the House:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and express our deepest appreciation to Representative Percy Maples for his many outstanding contributions to the legislative process and the people of the State of Mississippi and extend our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Percy Maples and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
