A RESOLUTION COMMENDING JOE F. SANDERSON, JR., FOR BEING INDUCTED INTO THE MISSISSIPPI POULTRY HALL OF FAME.

     WHEREAS, Joe F. Sanderson, Jr., is Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Sanderson Farms, Incorporated, which is headquartered in Laurel, Mississippi, and is the first in the second generation of Sanderson children to be inducted into the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sanderson attended Millsaps College after graduating from Laurel High School and returned to Laurel in 1969 to join the family owned business, where he has served in many key positions; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sanderson has held chairman positions in various organizations, such as the Mississippi Manufacturers Association, the Mississippi Poultry Association, the Business and Industry Political Education Committee, Inc., and the National Chicken Council, and was a former Director of the Mississippi Economic Council and the United States Poultry and Egg Association; and      WHEREAS, Mr. Sanderson presently serves as director of four organizations, the Mississippi Poultry Association, the Business and Industry Political Education Committee, Inc. (BIPEC), the Mississippi Manufacturers Association and the National Chicken Council; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his business pursuits, Mr. Sanderson has always remained active in his community by serving in a number of capacities, including serving as a member of the Laurel School District Board of Trustees, the Director of the Pine Burr Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Salvation Army, the United Way, the Laurel Chamber of Commerce and Care Cottage, a Trustee of Millsaps College, a Director of Alcorn State University Foundation, and as a past President and Director of the Association for Excellence in Education; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Sanderson's business pursuits and community activism have been supported by his wife, Kathy, their three children and six grandchildren; and

      WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to men of great character and business savvy, such as  Joe F. Sanderson, Jr.:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend Joe F. Sanderson, Jr., for being inducted into the Mississippi Poultry Hall of Fame.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Joe F. Sanderson, Jr., and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
