House Concurrent Resolution 127

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND WORKS OF PASTOR JOE HENRY HENSON AND EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Pastor Joe Henson, the son of John and Flora Henson, the husband of Marvis Harrison, and the father of Cassandra Henson-Hinton, Matthew Henson and Marcus Henson, was born on June 2, 1943, in Kilmichael, Mississippi, and departed this life on February 24, 2003; and

     WHEREAS, Pastor Henson confessed his hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and after graduating from high school, moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he attended North Institute to study police science and became a trained specialist in forensic science; and

     WHEREAS, Pastor Henson, answering his calling to the ministry, studied Christian Education at Aimwell Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained in 1972; and

     WHEREAS, Pastor Henson returned to Kilmichael, Mississippi, to accept a job as chief of police, a position which he faithfully  served for 15 years, yet he remained active in his community by becoming a cofounder of the community Voice of Faith Choir, writing and publishing two religious works and serving as a member of the Montgomery County School Board; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to men of great character and integrity such as Pastor Joe Henry Henson:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend the life and works of Pastor Joe Henry Henson and express our deepest sympathy upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Pastor Joe Henry Henson and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
