House Concurrent Resolution 114

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RIPLEY HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST-EVER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Ripley High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team finished the 2002-2003 season with an exceptional record of 32-3 and captured the Class 3A State Championship for the first time in their school history with a convincing 50-43 victory over West Lauderdale; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers were superbly coached and inspired by Coach Shane Montgomery and Assistant Coach Harvey Childers, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Montgomery has brought additional honor to himself and to Ripley High School by being selected as Class 3A Coach of the Year; and     

     WHEREAS, several of the Lady Tigers have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the selection of Miayorka Johnson, Jazmyn Vernon and Sierra Williamson to the All Tournament Team and the recognition of Miayorka Johnson as the Class 3A Player of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a superb degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring great honor to Ripley High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Ripley High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team, which consists of Miayorka Johnson, Jazmyn Vernon, Krystle Holiday, Evelyn Brooks, Sierra Williamson, Tasha Daniel, Yadi Martin, Keshia Heard, Sara Huddleston, Cigi Harrell, Loren Nabors, Amanda Jackson, Leslie Adkins, Hannah Simpson, Lillie Hurst, and Coaches Shane Montgomery and Harvey Childers for winning their first-ever State Championship.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ripley High School, Coach Shane Montgomery, Assistant Coach Harvey Childers and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
