A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE/REGIONAL 23 CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Men's Soccer Team did very well in state competition this year, winning the State/Region 23 Championship, and advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association Mid-Southwest District playoffs; and
WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including the selection of Ryan Ceccorullie, Brent Orr, Jeremiah Noack, and Steve Chisholm to the All-State and All-Region teams, and the naming of Brent Orr as the Most Valuable Player and Kyle Ellis as the Most Improved Player, and the granting of the Kai Thrash Award to Joe McKinney, the Defense Award to Jeremiah Noack, the Offensive Award to Steve Chisholm; and
WHEREAS, the Gulf Coast Community College Men's Soccer Team has been well coached and inspired by Coach Barry Thrash, who led the team to its first state championship since being created only five years ago, which is the fastest that any Gulf Coast sports program has won a state title after its creation; and
WHEREAS, Coach Thrash has brought additional honor to himself and to the college by being selected as the 2002 Region 23 Coach of the Year and the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the students of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Gulf Coast Community College Men's Soccer Team and Coach Barry Thrash for their outstanding 2002 season, for winning the State/Regional 23 Championship, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Gulf Coast Community College and Coach Barry Thrash.
