House Concurrent Resolution 93

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. FANNIE LOUISE MCGEE JACKSON.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Fannie Louise McGee Jackson, a native of Terry, Mississippi, departed this life, causing a great loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, after graduating with honors from Alexander Colored High School in Brookhaven, Mrs. Jackson received a scholarship in music to attend Jackson College, where she graduated with a certificate in music; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson's contributions of service to her community have touched the lives of so many people; and

WHEREAS, in the late 1960s, Mrs. Jackson was involved with the community action agencies from which the Hinds County Project Head Start and the Terry Community Service Center were created; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson served on the board of directors for numerous organizations, including Central Mississippi Legal Service, Hinds County Project Head Start, Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, Central Mississippi Family Health Center, Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, Golden Key Senior Citizen Center, Tri-County Senior Citizens Board, Hinds County Public School PTSA Advisory Council, Martin Luther King Breakfast Celebration in the Terry Community, Neighborhood Watch Program, NAACP and Friends of Terry Committee; and

WHEREAS, throughout her many years of devoted community service, Mrs. Jackson received the Honorary Colonel Award from both former Governors Bill Waller and Bill Allain; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson was a faithful member of Collis Hill Church of Christ Holiness, U.S.A., in Terry, where she served in various ministries, such as the Christian Women Willing Workers, Sunday School, choir, missions, and many others; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Judge Marvin Jackson, Sr.; seven children, Charles H. Jackson, Judge Marvin Jackson, Jr., Virginia Jackson Terry, Denise Jackson, Lawrence Alexander Jackson, Derrick Jackson and Cornell Slaughter; a nephew, Vernon Bozeman; a niece, Barbara Johnson Ojelida; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mrs. Jackson who was a pioneer in the field of human and cultural services and civil rights; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Mrs. Fannie Louise McGee Jackson and express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Fannie Louise McGee Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
