House Concurrent Resolution 92

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. STANISLAUS COLLEGE ROCK-A-CHAWS SOCCER TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2002-2003 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the St. Stanislaus College Rock-A-Chaws Soccer Team finished the 2002-2003 season with an outstanding record of 24 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie and captured the Class 4A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws performed exceptionally well in the Class 4A playoffs this year, crushing McComb 9-0 in Bi-District, defeating Laurel 3-1 in the Quarter Finals, ousting Gautier 6-1 in the South State Finals and claiming the State Championship with a victory over Pearl 3-1 in the State Finals; and

WHEREAS, finishing division play 10-0, which is the second consecutive year they went undefeated in division play, the Rock-A-Chaws qualified for the state playoffs for the thirteenth consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, not only did the Rock-A-Chaws outscore their opponents 143 to 19 with 14 shutouts during the season, they also won the Harrison Central Christmas Tournament, defeating five Class 5A teams including the defending 5A State Champion, Brandon High School, and finished the season ranked second overall in the state according to The Clarion-Ledger poll; and

WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Andy Kivlan and Assistant Coaches Jeff Dunbar, Matt Myers and Greg Soltis, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Rock-A-Chaws have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to St. Stanislaus College; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the St. Stanislaus College Rock-A-Chaws Soccer Team and their coaches, Head Coach Andy Kivlan and Assistant Coaches Jeff Dunbar, Matt Myers and Greg Soltis, for their outstanding 2002-2003 season, for winning the Class 4A State Championship, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to St. Stanislaus College, Head Coach Andy Kivlan, Assistant Coaches Jeff Dunbar, Matt Myers and Greg Soltis and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
