    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. RODNEY A. PEARSON FOR HIS SERVICE ON THE BOARD FOR THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES AND FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Rodney A. Pearson, a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, graduated from the University of Mississippi and earned a doctoral degree in Management Information Systems from Harvard University; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Pearson served on the board for the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (formerly the Central Data Processing Authority) from 1993 until 2002, functioning in multiple capacities such as chairman, vice chairman and as a very active member with consistent attendance at the board's monthly meetings; and

     WHEREAS, through his diligence and dedication, Dr. Pearson has significantly contributed to the appropriate and cost-effective use of technology throughout state government and was instrumental in reorganizing the agency from the Central Data Processing Authority to the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services; and

     WHEREAS, a resident of Starkville, Mississippi, Dr. Pearson is highly regarded in the information technology field and has used his expertise by serving as a professor of information technology in the Department of Management and Information Systems in the College of Business and Industry at Mississippi State University since 1987; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Legislature finds it most appropriate to pay special tribute to such an outstanding citizen as Dr. Pearson, who has served the citizens of Mississippi by carrying out his many duties of public service in the field of information technology and by ensuring that efficient acquisition and utilization of technology is provided for by all state agencies of state government:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate Dr. Rodney A. Pearson for his exceptional service on the board for the Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services and for his many years of dedicated service to the citizens of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Rodney Pearson and the Capitol Press Corps.
