House Bill 1643

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE DOLLARS UPON EACH CASE PROCESSED IN THE JUSTICE, CHANCERY, COUNTY AND CIRCUIT COURTS OF SUCH COUNTY, THE AVAILS OF WHICH SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE JACKSON COUNTY LAW LIBRARY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Jackson County, Mississippi, in its discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, may levy an additional assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Five Dollars ($5.00) upon each case processed in the justice, chancery, county or circuit courts of Jackson County.

     (2)  The avails of the additional assessment imposed under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid monthly by the county to the Jackson County Law Library, for the purpose of improving the legal resources available to the public.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
