House Bill 1197

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO KNOWINGLY INSTALL ANY OBJECT AS PART OF A VEHICLE INFLATABLE SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM IN LIEU OF AN AIR BAG MEETING FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any person who knowingly installs or reinstalls any object in lieu of an air bag that was designed as part of a vehicle inflatable safety restraint system in accordance with federal safety regulations for the make, model and year of the vehicle is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable, upon conviction, by a fine of not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5.000.00), or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one (1) year, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2003.
