House Bill 142

AN ACT TO CREATE A NEW CODE SECTION THAT WOULD PROVIDE THAT THE INTENTIONAL KILLING OF A POLICE DOG IS A FELONY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any person who shall maliciously, either out of a spirit of revenge or wanton cruelty, or who shall mischievously kill a police dog, or cause any person to do the same, is guilty of a felony and upon conviction shall be fined not more that Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) and be imprisoned for not more than five (5) years.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2003.
