AMENDMENT No. 1 PROPOSED TO

                             Senate Bill NO. 3187

                             By Representative(s) Committee


     Amend by striking all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

 


     SECTION 1.  The board of supervisors of any county, and the governing authorities of any municipality, may exempt from ad valorem taxation for the 2002 calendar year, buildings, structures or other improvements to real estate that were a total loss as a result of a tornado occurring during the 2001 calendar year if such buildings, structures or other improvements were not habitable on January 1, 2002, or if the board of supervisors or governing authorities, as the case may be, have not provided for the proper exemption under previously granted authority. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage, and shall be repealed from and after January 1, 2003.


     Further, amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

 


     AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ANY COUNTY, AND THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF ANY MUNICIPALITY, TO EXEMPT FROM AD VALOREM TAXATION FOR THE 2002 CALENDAR YEAR, CERTAIN REAL ESTATE THAT WAS A TOTAL LOSS AS A RESULT OF A TORNADO OCCURRING DURING THE 2001 CALENDAR YEAR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
