Senate Resolution 79

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MSU BULLDOG BASKETBALL PLAYER, MARIO AUSTIN, FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE SEC TOURNAMENT AND FOR HAVING AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

     WHEREAS, MSU Bulldog basketball player, Mario Austin, was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the SEC Tournament; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to being selected the Most Valuable Player, Mario was a second-team All-SEC selection and a two-time SEC Player of the Week honoree for the Bulldogs; and

     WHEREAS, Mario Austin led the 2001-2002 Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding and was ranked second in the conference in field-goal percentage; and

     WHEREAS, Mario Austin was also named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District IV Team and was selected to the All-Tournament Team in the 2001 Las Vegas Classic; and

     WHEREAS, Mario Austin's determined and aggressive style of play was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to one of the most successful seasons in school history; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the student athletes of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do herby commend MSU Bulldog, Mario Austin, for being selected as the Most Valuable Player in the SEC Tournament and for having an outstanding season, and we wish him continued success in his endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mario Austin and forwarded to the Mississippi State University Athletic Department.
