Senate Resolution 75

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. JAMES-WESTMINSTER "TROJANS" FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CITY OF GULFPORT MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP AND BOWL GAME.

     WHEREAS, the 2001 St. James-Westminster "Trojans" Football Team won both the City of Gulfport Minor Football League Championship and the year-end Bowl Game for this league; and

     WHEREAS, the Trojans are in an eight- and nine-year-old league; and

     WHEREAS, this team was the smallest team, in terms of numbers, of any of the teams in the league, with most players playing both offense and defense; and

     WHEREAS, the Trojans went 7-0 for the 2001 season, only allowing 18 points in the seven games, while they scored more than 150 points; and

     WHEREAS, the coaches and team members are:  Mike Marshall, Head Coach; Galen Doucet and Mark Rose, Assistant Coaches; Tyler Bertrand, Jarrod Bigott, Thomas Butts, Robert Ross Cruthirds, Reed Davis, Galen Doucet, Jack Healy, Peyton Letard, Alex Marshall, Drake Odom, Brooks Robertson, Justin Rose, Michael Triggs and Marshall Van Loon, team members; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special accomplishment of this group of young men who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the St. James-Westminster "Trojans" Football Team for winning the City of Gulfport Minor Football League Championship and Bowl Game, and wish them success in future seasons.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the coaches, team members and parents of the St. James-Westminster "Trojans" Football Team and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
