Senate Resolution 56

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NEW ALBANY HIGH SCHOOL "LADY BULLDOGS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS EXCELLENT 2000-2001 SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the New Albany High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls Basketball Team completed the 2000-2001 season with an excellent record of 34 wins and only 6 losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Bulldogs made major accomplishments in tournament play:  New Albany Invitational Tournament Champions, Walnut Invitational Tournament Champions, Union County Tournament Champions, Division 1-3A Tournament Runner-up, North State 3A Consolation Champion and State 3A Tournament Champions; and

     WHEREAS, individual team members received special recognition as follows:  Ellen Buchanan (All-State, All-North Half, Division 1-3A All Tournament Team); Kristin Ivey (All-State, All-North Half, Division 1-3A All Tournament Team); Staranna Frazier (All-State, All-North Half, Division 1-3A All Tournament Team); Jazz Watson (All-North Half, Division 1-3A All Tournament Team); and Mallory Sanford (Division 1-3A All Tournament Team); and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Chuck Poer and Assistant Coach Mike Hearn emphasized basic basketball skills and instilled a winning team spirit in the Lady Bulldogs; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of these student athletes, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the New Albany High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Poer for their excellent 2000-2001 season, and wish them continued success in their athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Poer on behalf of the entire New Albany High School Girls Basketball Team, and be made available to the Principal of New Albany High School, and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
