A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE COPIAH ACADEMY LADY COLONELS FOR THEIR PHENOMENAL 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MPSA STATE AAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels Girls Basketball Team won the MPSA State AAA Basketball Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Colonels finished the season with a phenomenal record of 41 wins and only 3 losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Colonels won 40 games for the first time in the history of Copiah Academy; and

     WHEREAS, on their march to the championship the Lady Colonels won the District 3 AAA Championship, the South State AAA Championship, the Hillcrest Christian Tournament and the Silliman Invitational Tournament; and

     WHEREAS, the hallmark of this championship team was a tenacious defense that Coach Mitchell said was one of the best that he has ever seen; and

     WHEREAS, the team members are Madeline Price, Candace Clayton, Carley Clayton, Bethany Harris, Nikki Duke, Marcy McDonald, Jackie Stowe, Jessica Thornhill, Laura Stewart, Holly Pyles, Kobe Boone, Lacey Williams, Annie Selman, Rachel Little, Rebecca Hankins and Jennifer Harris; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Colonels were molded into a championship team by Coach Mitch Mitchell and Assistant Coach Gary Harris; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi Senate to recognize and commend the accomplishments of student athletes of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels for their phenomenal season and for winning the MPSA State AAA Basketball Championship and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels Basketball Team.
