A RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING SHEELA BHAGAT, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT RUST COLLEGE, FOR HER SPECIAL RECOGNITION DURING THE 15TH ANNUAL HIGHER EDUCATION APPRECIATION DAY--WORKING FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE (H.E.A.D.W.A.E.) PROGRAM.

     WHEREAS, seventy-six outstanding students and faculty members from thirty-eight Mississippi public and private universities and colleges received special recognition from the Mississippi Legislature on Tuesday, February 19, 2002, during the 15th Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day--Working for Academic Excellence (H.E.A.D.W.A.E.) Program; and

     WHEREAS, the H.E.A.D.W.A.E. observance was established in 1988 by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state's public and private institutions of higher learning, and is supported by the state's corporate community; and

     WHEREAS, faculty honoree representing Rust College at this program was Sheela Bhagat of Oxford, Mississippi, who is an Associate Professor with the Business Division; and

     WHEREAS, her impressive resume is as follows:

     Civic Activities:  Helping community with federal and state income tax forms; collecting funds for March of Dimes and Diabetes in the Oxford area;

     Family:  Husband, Dr. G. Bhagat; Daughter, Rekha Hagen; and

     WHEREAS, the superior quality of education instruction at Rust College and our other public and private colleges and universities has permitted Mississippi to successfully attract and retain some of the brightest and most academically talented students in the state and nation; and

     WHEREAS, the Senate of the State of Mississippi believes that it is most appropriate to pay special tribute to and bring deserved recognition and attention to those educational instructors of our state's universities and colleges who exemplify exceptional instructional skills, demonstrating that a quality education can be found within the borders of our state, and it is with great pride that we recognize the accomplishments of this outstanding instructor who has brought honor to her community, her college and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we hereby congratulate Sheela Bhagat, of Oxford, Mississippi, an Associate Professor at Rust College, for her special recognition at the 15th Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day--Working for Academic Excellence, as most representative of the finest traditions in outstanding academic instructional skills, and wish her continued success in her future career endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Sheela Bhagat and her family, be forwarded to the President of Rust College and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
